Prisoners of the here and now.
Bound to Spacetime is Adrian Preda’s solo exhibition, curated by Ioana Marinescu, within a complex cultural project run by the ARCHÉ Association in partnership with H’art Gallery, the Multicultural Centre of Transilvania University of Brașov and the National Museum of Maps and Old Books. The project is co-funded by AFCN (the Administration of the National Cultural Fund) and by the “Financial support programme granted by the Bucharest City Hall through Expo Arte and DGAPMFP, Oct–Dec 2020”.
Since 2015 Adrian Preda has been interested in “heavenly bodies” and in transposing beyond Earth some fundamental issues that concern him: ecology, the interaction between humans and animals and its consequences, and the exploitation of natural resources.
The exhibition Bound to Spacetime foregrounds Preda’s interest in the conventional representation of space and time in physics. Its title comes from the series of works in which various marine mammals are caught in blue nets. They can be seen as a description or as a metaphor, but the intention is to highlight the inseparable bond between living beings and the physical world. The artist stresses the idea that we are prisoners of the reality of the “here and now”, without knowing what lies beyond it.
Adrian Preda’s solo exhibition Bound to Spacetime, curated by Ioana Marinescu, opened at H’art Gallery on 12 November 2020 and closed with a finissage on 4 February 2021. It was part of a project by the ARCHÉ Association, in partnership with H’art, the Multicultural Centre of Transilvania University of Brașov and the National Museum of Maps and Old Books.
Interested since 2015 in “heavenly bodies”, Preda moves concerns such as ecology, human-animal relations and the exploitation of resources beyond Earth. The title comes from a series in which marine mammals are caught in blue nets, an image of the inseparable bond between living beings and the physical world.
