The age and the apocalypse, fused into one word.

Epocalips@ is a linguistic and conceptual construction created by blending two extremely familiar terms, epoch and apocalypse; this crossing produces the perfect hybrid to describe the confusion and hypocrisy of the world we live in. Placed in the most perverted zone of the contemporary age, a space contaminated by imposture (political, religious and so on), we constantly practise survival. Yet existence in such an environment becomes devastating, and a society “built” on these precepts inevitably feeds chaos and alienation.

It is a sharply critical artistic discourse, through which Marian Zidaru challenges us to escape the mental lethargy of cheap consumerism and form our own opinion about the effects and defects of contemporary society. The artist’s observations reflect a moral structure that tolerates neither lies nor opportunism, tirelessly seeking the TRUTH. It is a path through which we can discover that true values are not obtained through material wealth, duplicity, clan interests and meanness of spirit.

Zidaru’s world is not a utopian projection. It is a form of resistance for those who believe in its reality, a model in sharp contradiction with the image of today’s society: a broken, dismembered society that survives crippled, consuming its last resources of emotional and moral generosity. Dear (fellow) citizens, Epocalips@ is now! (Mihaela Velea)

On 26 October 2017, the Craiova Art Museum opened EpoCalipsa după Zidaru (EpoCalypse after Zidaru), with works by Marian Zidaru accompanied by a text by Mihaela Velea.

The title, Epocalips@, merges “epoch” and “apocalypse” into a hybrid that describes the confusion and hypocrisy of today’s world. Zidaru’s critical discourse urges us out of the lethargy of cheap consumerism and towards a search for truth beyond wealth, duplicity and clan interests.
