Nothing exists outside its context.
Dumitru Gorzo’s solo show captures an assertion, a visual statement of the idea that nothing and no one exists autonomously and independently of context. Every social and cultural island is connected, contaminated by the ideas, sensations and experiences in its proximity. In this key, self-awareness becomes an act of reconciliation between the “parts”, which lose the singularity granted by a hypothetical autonomy from the “whole”.
Though conceived as a unity, the solo show CONTAGION is not meant as a monolithic exhibition but as an assertion that is seemingly eclectic in time and material, drawing on different media and on fragments from different moments in time that bear the traces of a continuous process of knowing by means of the “image”.
Dumitru Gorzo’s solo exhibition Contagiune (Contagion), curated by Silviu Pădurariu, opened ARCUB’s 2017 exhibition programme on 14 February 2017, at Lipscani 84–90.
Conceived as a whole yet seemingly eclectic in time and material, the show brought together different media and fragments from different moments, traces of a continuous process of knowing through the image. Each social and cultural island appears contaminated by the ideas, sensations and experiences around it.
