Between figure and sign.
Gili Mocanu constructs spaces that seem to extend beyond the canvas. Lines, corners and volumes acquire an uncanny presence, somewhere between abstraction and a room that might exist. Meaning remains suspended as the eye seeks a place within this geometry.
He belongs to the generation of artists with whom H’art opened in 2002. Dumnezeu, shown at the gallery in 2022–2023, brought together the paired figures of Mocani and the six-panel self-portrait Autoportret – Marea. The exhibition is part of the gallery’s history of collaborations.
