Drawing as an instinctive, therapeutic ground.

Alexandru Paul is an ingenious artist. He started drawing while not photographing the posh-kitsch suburbs or social representations of the people in trams, just to list the themes he has been working for over ten years. But the drawing is something different, an instinctual area in his work, where the experiment leads to some visual and therapeutic results. He would have been able to choose the narrow and beaten path in which he learned to draw paintings with scholarship and academics. But he chose to use a personal-intuitive method in which “I preferred to learn by myself how to do and practice rather than to find solutions that are ready to serve,” explains Alexandru.

Ioana Marinescu

Alexandru Paul’s exhibition “Redescoperirea apei calde” (Reinventing the wheel) opened on 5 November 2018 at Cărturești Carusel, as part of the White Night of Galleries Bucharest, NAG#12.

Known for photographing posh-kitsch suburbs and people on trams, Alexandru Paul treats drawing as an instinctive zone where experiment leads to visual and therapeutic results. Ioana Marinescu’s text highlights his personal, intuitive method, chosen over academic training.
