Violence leaves a trace. Painting follows it.
George Anghelescu’s first solo exhibition at H’art sets the promise of heroism against the vulnerability of the body. Its title invokes Horace’s phrase about dying for one’s country; the images consider what such language can conceal.
Precise detail, loose brushwork and scratched surfaces meet in paintings and drawings concerned with trauma and power. Writing in ARTA Magazine, Valentina Iancu reads the body as a witness to violence. The exhibition took place at H’art’s former space at 25 C.A. Rosetti Street.
