A self-portrait made in the company of others.
Over two days in November 2025, Nicolae Comănescu painted the people who came to his studio. Friends, collaborators, acquaintances: each encounter left a trace. Together, the portraits form an image of the artist through the people around him.
At Casa Maria Lahovary, colour and material let faces emerge and recede. Marking 25 years since the Rostopasca group ceased its activity, the exhibition approaches self-portraiture through relationship rather than resemblance.
Organised by MARe/Museum of Recent Art in partnership with H’art and /SAC Contemporary Art Space. The works were made within the Rostopasca programme, initiated by the Hearth/Casa KERIM association.
Dates from published sources and the gallery’s list are shown separately, with their provenance.
