A portrait begins with an encounter.
For Nicolae Comănescu, materials arrive with histories attached. Reclaimed wooden panels, textiles, dust and layers of paint carry traces of life around the studio. A co-founder of Rostopasca, he belongs to the generation of artists with whom H’art began in 2002.
In Auto-Portret, presented at Casa Maria Lahovary in 2026, friends and collaborators become the starting point for painting. Their likeness gives way to the texture of the encounter. Through time spent with others, a portrait of the artist gradually takes shape.
